This style has its origins in many countries, cultures and eras around the Mediterranean, but its beauty surely lies in its versatility. The Mediterranean look can be formal or rustic, elegant or pastoral; each mix happily to give the look of a home built over many generations with comfort and longevity in mind. No Mediterranean style is complete without tiles.
Use Bold Colours
There are certain elements of this design style that are fairly consistent though, mainly its use of colour. Bold, sun-drenched shades like warm orange or the deep, warm earthy tones of browns and rusty reds, or even the deep blues of the sky and ocean which evoke images of the sunny Greek isles, especially when teamed with crisp white walls and rustic accessories.
Vast expanses of quarry tiles or ornate mosaics in the configuration of dolphins and urns may scream Mediterranean but use the right tiles and you can bring this style into your home without a tesserae in sight. Terracotta floor tiles or patterned ceramic tiles; no Mediterranean style bathroom is complete without tiles.

Bold colours can be used as a primary scheme on walls, ceilings, floors, or even as tiled accents throughout an interior design. There are many floor tiles and wall tiles available that have mimicked the traditional style by offering varying shades of colour or pattern that give that classical aesthetic; Terracotta, mosaic-style or eclectic patterned tile as backsplashes, for example. You won’t find a more Mediterranean inspired tile than our Crete range
Use Texture and Pattern
Textures and patterns feature heavily in Mediterranean bathrooms and synonymous with this style is the look and feel of building materials that come from the earth. Our Monumental Ivory outdoor porcelain floor tiles are truly stunning and the Santiago range has the look of a classic traditional Mediterranean tile.
To complete the look you might consider applied walls textures like stucco, elaborate Greek-roman ornamentation like carved arms and legs on furniture.
Essentially this style is about creating atmosphere in a room, and the relaxed but elegant lifestyle of the Mediterranean that it conjures.
