Help, Advice & Inspiration

Be DIY Confident

Written by Abby Carter

Tackling your own tiling project can be a daunting prospect, but if done with the correct tools, accessories and some solid research, it can be immensely rewarding. Check out these useful videos, blogs, tiling tips and recommended products that will help you succeed with your DIY tiling.

Tile Grout

Grout is an often underestimated, but hugely important aspect of your tile design. It frames each tile and is therefore a very visible part of the design and overall effect of the tiles.

Quick Fire FAQ's:

Q: What should I consider when ordering grout?

A: The colour you choose for your grout is almost as important as the tile itself. With the wrong colour of grout, you could create an overall look that really does not fit your vision. Take a look at the hexagon tiles at the top of this page and see for yourself what difference it makes when you choose a light or a dark grout.

A: Be sure to order enough! If you are debating the issue, it is always best to buy more grout than less, and make sure you can finish the job (rather than risk being left with holes!)

Tile Adhesive

Our range of Ready Mixed & Powdered tile adhesive is here to make laying your new bathroom, kitchen or outdoor tiles as easy a process as possible.

Quick Fire FAQ's:

Q: Should I use a ready-mixed or cement-based powdered tile adhesive?

A: Ready-mixed is generally easier to use as it can be spread straight out of the bucket and does not require water or mixing and is ideal for fixing ceramic tiles or metros 300mmx300mm or smaller.

A: Powdered adhesives are ideal for large-format, natural stone and porcelain tiles and help to adhere a tile to floors and wet environments. The added strength, flexibility and drying consistency are absolutely essential to ensure a quality and long-lasting hold.

Quick Fire FAQ's:

Q: What are the correct tools for me?

A: When looking at trowels, the millimetre notch size corresponds to the gap left between each ridge. So, as a rule, the smaller your tiles, the smaller your gaps should be.

A: We offer a range of tile cutters for your DIY needs. Contact our helpdesk to get expert advice on the cutter size you may need for your specific project.

Trims

Stylish trims that protect the external corners of your tiled wall surfaces against damage, while adding a professional finishing touch.

Quick Fire FAQ's:

Q: What should I think about when ordrering trims?

A: Trims are as much about complimenting the tile design as they are about covering rough or scratched tiles. Be sure to get a finish that brings your tile choice to life!

A: Always be sure that your trim depth is one size up from your tile depth to ensure the smoothest of fits.

Quick Fire FAQ's:

Q: What should I be looking for when buying a shower niche?

A: First easy question is, what products do you want to keep in your niche? If you use tall shampoo bottles or big bars of soap, make sure you pick the right niche size for you.

A: Choosing a wide or tall niche affects the overall profile and look of your shower, so be sure to make the most of the dimensions and space that you have.
