At Tileflair we love metro tiles – these little bricks of charm have been around for a good decade or so but are still going strong because of their ability to suit almost every setting. They bring style and sophistication to the home, creating a chic and inviting bathroom or kitchen. Now match this love for tiles with a truly inspirational decor professional, who has an eye for detail and passion for all things fabulous and you have a match made in heaven! Simplythenest on Instargam and her own website/blog had gathered followers by the thousand to learn home decor details that interior designers could take tips from.
@simplythenest makes good use of our Brick Bianco metro wall tiles, in a simple brick bond formation, to give an industrial edge to this warm and inviting kitchen. The tiles are enhanced with a dark grey grout, which not only helps to avoid the dirt showing up, on a high splash area, but further enhances the industrial look of these tiles.
Open shelves
This kitchen has a very modern feature – the wall-length open shelves. Not only practical because everything is easily accessible, they also enhance the spacious feel and they are beautiful too. The wood shelves and worktop, which are stained a similar tone warms the cool crisp white of the painted walls and metro tiles. The industrial nature of the metro tiles is further enhanced by the metal shelf brackets which add definition to the look.
An eclectic collection of china and glass, punctuated with the odd metal item, adds subtle interest and adds to the welcoming, homely feel to this room. The metal theme is extended with the bronzy-gold painted pillar in the middle of the island. Then, flowers and plants add a little nature into the mix.
The kitchen cabinets are a soft grey-almost pale blue colour, which is beautifully echoed in the joyful, multi-coloured, patterned flooring of the Moroccan-inspired cement tiles. These tiles are very similar to our Limoges tile in the Bordeaux range.
Lighting
Good lighting is vital in a modern kitchen, and in this room, lighting is plentiful. It features a huge skylight that extends the length of the room, as well as downlights in the ceiling to illuminate the space when it’s dark outside. The light bounces off the Brick Bianco tiles, and the china and glass on the open shelves, and the chrome and other metals such as in the brass handles. This has the effect of sending tiny shafts of light around the room.
It never fails to amaze me the impact that simple metro tiles have on a room. We hope you agree and we hope that you too have found inspiration in this real-life kitchen.
